Police: Warning of poisoned drinks in supermarkets

The police are currently warning of drinks from supermarkets in the Munich area. A total of four cases have been reported since March 2020 in which bottles have been mixed with a toxic substance. The drinks are said to have been mixed with a kind of solvent.

Poisoned drinks from the supermarket

Three customers had already bought and consumed the drinks. After a few swallows, they complained of dizziness, nausea and circulatory problems. After two women had to be treated immediately, it became clear that the bottles contained a lethal dose of toxic substances. It is said to have been filled in by a previously unknown perpetrator and the drinks were then put back on the supermarket shelf. Two supermarkets from different chains in western Munich are affected. Exactly which branches are involved is currently not announced.

Police warn of manipulated bottles

After initial covert investigations, the police have now gone public to warn the population: "It is highly recommended to pay attention to the integrity of the safety ring when buying screw-top beverage bottles," the Bavarian police press release said. If the bottle is contaminated, it should not be bought or drunk. In addition, the smell and taste of drinks from the supermarket should be taken into account.

If there is any suspicion, the police ask that the drink not be thrown away, but that the emergency number be called immediately. At the same time, the investigators are now hoping for clues from the population. Anyone who has seen manipulated bottles or even experienced health problems after drinking is also encouraged to contact the specially founded SOKO Tox, Tel. 089 / 2910-0.
