Johnson family member has corona
At the beginning of the pandemic, when there was still no vaccine, the British Prime Minister fell ill with Covid-19 so badly that he had to be treated in the intensive care unit. His then pregnant fiancée is also infected. Now there is another corona case in the family.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is criticized for corona violations, has canceled a trip to northern England because of a corona case in his family. “The prime minister will no longer travel to Lancashire today because a family member tested positive for the coronavirus,” a Downing Street spokesman said.
Fully vaccinated people in England no longer have to isolate themselves after contact with an infected person. However, it is recommended to “limit close contact with people outside the household”. The spokesman did not say which family member was infected.
Johnson lives in an apartment on Downing Street with his wife, Carrie, and their two young children. The Prime Minister himself had contracted the virus at the beginning of the pandemic in spring 2020, long before there was a vaccine, and ended up in intensive care. His partner, who was pregnant at the time, was also infected.
Johnson is currently under massive pressure for violating the corona rules during the first lockdown in May 2020. On Wednesday he had admitted to a garden party in the British Parliament at the government seat in Downing Street and apologized. At that time, the country was in strict corona lockdown and even meetings of more than two people outdoors were prohibited. The opposition and some members of Johnson’s Conservative Party are calling for the Prime Minister to resign.
