Presentation Skoda Enyaq RS Coupé: E-SUV starts with 220 kW version


SUV coupes sometimes seem like an attempt at how far you can actually push the absurdity of the offer. More ground clearance, which hardly anyone needs in everyday driving, garnished with a flat roof line that cuts headroom at the rear and maximum loading volume. Huge wheel arches are inevitable, in which even 19-inch rims do not seem excessive. From the point of view of the industry, the reason why this mixture is offered at all is mundane: there is significant global demand, and it can be sold with comparatively little effort, because the coupés usually cost a little more than the usual SUVs.


Like the VW ID 4 and 5 or the Audi Q4, the Skoda Enyaq Coupé is based on the MEB, but is not built in Zwickau like these, but in the Czech Republic.

So it makes sense for Volkswagen to expand the ranks of electric SUVs a bit. The group brands Audi and VW have already implemented this with the Q4 e-tron (test) and ID.4/ID.5, and Skoda is now following with the Enyaq. Its SUV version is currently only available after a month-long wait, but it remains to be seen whether the coupe will fare similarly. Especially in the rear it is reminiscent of the Tesla Model Y, but at 4.65 m it is a bit shorter. The coupe is slightly longer than the “usual” Enyaq, height, width and wheelbase are identical.

At 570 liters, the trunk volume is hardly smaller than in the SUV, which has a capacity of 585 liters. Not even the headroom is said to have suffered from the attempt to make the design more dynamic. The large glass roof of the photo model is standard in the coupé, but unlike the SUV, it cannot be opened. For the premiere, Skoda does not reveal any prices, but the well-equipped starter model should only cost slightly less than 60,000 euros.


The instruments shrink, the screen grows.

Because the Enyaq RS Coupé should come onto the market in the spring, but initially only with a new engine in the Enyaq. The two electric motors deliver a total of 220 kW, so far the Enyaq was limited to 195 kW. The less powerful engines, which have an output of 132, 150 and 195 kW, should also be available in the autumn. In the starting model, there is no alternative to the largest battery on this basis. Their energy content is 77 kWh (net). This is consistent insofar as most Enyaq buyers have chosen the maximum memory expansion anyway.
