After a month and a half of collecting sponsorships, 11 personalities can stand for the presidential election. The candidates with the highest voting intentions, according to the polls, can all run.
End of suspense. After 6 weeks of collecting sponsorships by the Constitutional Council, there are 11 personalities who have crossed the 500 signature mark. Valérie Pécresse (2556), Emmanuel Macron (1974) and Anne Hidalgo (1387) are racing in the lead. For the two candidates, the powerful political apparatuses (LR and PS) help to garner the support of local elected officials. For the Head of State – the first to have passed the 500 sesame mark – this can be explained by his presidential stature which pushes some to give their sponsorship.
With nearly 900 sponsorships, Jean-Luc Mélenchon achieved a good performance, far above the 500 mark required. The candidate of France Insoumise had however complained about this system, calling for the sponsorship to be made anonymous and for the establishment of citizen sponsorship. The environmentalist pretender Yannick Jadot is also gathering enough support from elected officials to become a presidential candidate for the first time. After a good score from environmentalists in the European elections, the MEP hopes to regain this dynamic of 2019.

The communist Fabien Roussel can also be a candidate. With more than 600 sponsorships, he was able to quickly formalize his candidacy during the 5 weeks of collecting sponsorships. A situation similar to those of Nathalie Arthaud and Jean Lassalle. With 570 and 620 sponsorships respectively, they will be able to campaign. This is the 2nd election for Jean Lassalle, the 3rd for the candidate Lutte Ouvrière (2012 and 2017).
The last three candidates who passed the milestone of 500 sponsorships on March 1 are consolidating their bases. Marine Le Pen received 603 sponsorships, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan 582 and Eric Zemmour 721.
Suspense around Philippe Poutou
For the candidate of the New Anti-Capitalist Party Philippe Poutou, present in 2012 and 2017, the suspense is total. Thursday at 5 p.m., the day before the deadline for deposits, he had 439 sponsorships, but on social networks the pretender to the Elysée is confident. “The 500, we have them! So what we have been repeating since the start of the campaign is now assured: we will be there!”, he wrote on Twitter. “439 sponsorships to the Constitutional Council, but with those who go back we will exceed 500”, he added.
For François Asselineau it seems more complicated With 279 supporters, the Frexit candidate, present in 2017 under the UPR label, will not be a candidate in 2022. This can be explained by the large number of applications from the far right and by his indictment for harassment and sexual assault in 2021.
Real disappointment for the one who was to embody the future of the left: Christiane Taubira, candidate for the popular primary, gave up on Wednesday having collected only 241 sponsorships. The candidate of the animalist party Hélène Thouy will not participate in the presidential election either. With only 124 signatures, the lawyer from the southwest will not be able to present her animal defense program.
