Presidential: Hidalgo, who maintains his idea of primary, will not line up behind Taubira

Hidalgo presidential candidate 2022case

The socialist presidential candidate announced this Thursday that she maintained her desire to participate in a primary and let it be known that she would not withdraw behind the former Minister of Justice.

She does not budge. Invited this Thursday morning from BFM TV, the PS mayor of Paris reiterates her wish to participate in a primary whose outlines are, for the time being, more than uncertain. “For us to govern we have to come together, and the best way to come together is the primary”, she says at the microphone of Jean-Jacques Bourdin.

The PS candidate also said she would not side with Christiane Taubira, who announced on December 17 “Consider being a candidate” in the presidential election in April. “This is an additional candidacy, estimated Hidalgo. As far as I am concerned, I propose, I did it, it is my responsibility, a primary of the left. “ On Europe 1, the spokesperson for the socialist candidate and Member of Parliament for Tarn-et-Garonne, Valérie Rabault, also ensures that he “There is no alternative”. Hidalgo or nothing, say hollow the roses, despite the doubts internally.

“Fight among yourselves”

Problem: on the left, almost all of them shun the proposal. “Fight among yourselves, leave me alone ”, launched last week the leader of rebels, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, from the West Indies. Same end of inadmissibility on the part of the candidate EE-LV Yannick Jadot, who asked last week to serious in this campaign. Environmentalists keep repeating that, if there is to be a union on the left, it will be behind them. There is therefore no question of stepping aside in favor of the Socialists, as they had done in 2017 for Benoît Hamon. Communist Fabien Roussel and anti-capitalist candidate Philippe Poutou also said no to a primary.

The socialist candidate, who launched this idea to everyone’s surprise, persists. “You have 85% of French people who say they are more on the left who call this primary”, she insists again this Thursday. Organization, participants, debates… Everything remains unclear. “We still have the month of January to be able to do it”, wants to believe Anne Hidalgo. A cry into the void? The mayor of Paris repeats it: the only way to beat Emmanuel Macron, for the left, is to unite. Faced with a debate “Cannibalized” through the right and its extreme, the socialist intends to carry the themes of work, wages, school, health, etc. The fact remains that, divided, the left does not print. And risk, with less than four months of the poll, the collective rout.
