While the polls have been announcing for several months a three-way duel between Marine Le Pen, Valérie Pécresse and Éric Zemmour, for a place in the second round of the presidential election against Emmanuel Macron, another candidate imagines winning the bet in their place. : the leader of La France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

If 467,000 people have registered to participate in the popular primary, an unprecedented ballot supposed to designate a representative on the left for the presidential election which will take place from January 27 to 30, Yannick Jadot and Jean-Luc Mélenchon still refuse to participate in this initiative. For the leader of La France Insoumise, there is no need to participate, he already imagines himself in the second round of the presidential election.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the surprise of the first round of the presidential election?

His calculation is clear and in his head it can pass. The leader of La France Insoumise continues to gain ground, he is now credited with 11 to 13% of voting intentions, according to the various polling institutes, almost five points more than in October.

The MP relies heavily on the useful vote of leftist voters disgusted with the division, he sees them take refuge in him, the best placed and thus hopes to gain up to three points. Jean-Luc Mélenchon is also betting on capturing the abstentionists, not yet counted in the polls but of which he is one of the biggest beneficiaries: they had already brought him 2 to 3% of the votes.

In total, the candidate for the presidential election would win more than 19% of the vote, the same result as in 2017. A score that would place him this time ahead of Valérie Pécresse, Marine Le Pen and Eric Zemmour who, for the moment, are neutralized around 16% of voting intentions.
