Candidate LR in the presidential election wants to exempt inheritance taxes up to 200,000 euros per child. She also wants each parent to be able to give 100,000 euros every six years to their children, compared to fifteen today. Measures she borrowed from Eric Ciotti, the unfortunate loser of the December Congress.

In an interview at Figaro published on Sunday, Valérie Pécresse, the LR candidate for the presidential election, said that she wanted to exempt inheritance from tax for 95% of French people and facilitate donations. After a start to the campaign during which she spoke a lot about immigration and security, the right-wing candidate is addressing wealthier voters this time, some of whom voted for Emmanuel Macron in 2017.

The candidate defends two main measures. First, she wants to ensure that each parent can give 100,000 euros tax-free every six years, compared to fifteen today. This measure concerns donations from parents and children, but also from grandparents to grandchildren.

Valérie Pécresse also wants estates of 200,000 euros and less to be tax exempt. The candidate thus takes over the proposals of Eric Ciotti. The deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes and finalist of the Congress of Republicans speaks of a “tax on death”. A shock formula, also used by Eric Zemmour who also targets this electorate made up of retirees, traders and business leaders. A traditionally right-wing electorate, hotly contested this year, that Valérie Pécresse does not intend to abandon to her opponents.
