Presidential: “The situation of the left despairs me”, deplores Olivier Klein

He does not recognize himself in the current left. A few months before the presidential election, the mayor (DVG) of Clichy-sous-Bois in Seine-Saint-Denis, Olivier Klein, regretted a political situation which “despairs” him because of the multiplication of candidacies, in particular those by Anne Hidalgo and Christiane Taubira. “I lived extremely painfully in April 2002. This is one of the reasons for my transition from the Communist Party to the Socialist Party”, he declared at the microphone of Jean-Pierre Elkabbach.

Christiane Taubira “divides even more”

For Olivier Klein, the former Keeper of the Seals “unfortunately divides even more”. “In April 2002, I saw how this division could bring a second round without Lionel Jospin, who himself had not been unworthy”, he explained on Europe 1. The mayor of Clichy-sous -Bois, who calls himself a “social democrat”, considered that social democracy “can recognize itself in a candidacy other than that of the left”.

This other candidacy for Olivier Klein is that, to come, of Emmanuel Macron. “I will tell (the young people of Clichy-sous-Bois) to vote” for the outgoing president, he said in particular, refuting the qualifier “left alibi” of Macron. “What I want is to talk about working-class neighborhoods, try to influence the campaign on these issues, make proposals,” he said, stressing that he would be active in the presidential campaign.
