While more than 1,500 local elected officials called, in a column published in “Le Journal du dimanche”, for a single candidacy on the left, through a primary, for the presidential election, Jean-Luc Mélenchon does not shirk not and remains on its positions, convinced that the games of alliance will not bring back votes.

Will the left succeed in uniting? In a column, published in Sunday Newspaper, more than 1,500 elected representatives call for the union of the left. A forum in particular signed by the support of the candidate of the Socialist Party, Anne Hidalgo, like Martine Aubry. In this potential union, a central figure: Jean-Luc Mélenchon, determined to go it alone until the end of the presidential campaign.

“We will be in the second round”

The leader of La France Insoumise is the most hostile to discussions for a common candidacy. On this subject, we can say that Jean-Luc Mélenchon has totally changed his vision compared to that of 2017. He is today convinced that alliance games do not bring a voice and rather wants a union by the militant base and associative. This is what he achieved by forming the parliament of the popular union, made up of citizens, artists or activists.

According to Jean-Luc Mélenchon the political division is not a problem since he maintains that the left has always won by being divided. In 2012, he himself was a candidate against François Hollande.

While he hovers between 10 and 13% of voting intentions in the polls, he is certain of one thing: “It’s a mouse hole, but we will be in the second round.” His analysis is simple, he believes that the voters of the left will vote useful at the last moment and therefore for him, as was the case in 2017. Thus, he hopes to achieve the same score of 19.5%, which would be sufficient in 2022 to qualify in the second round.
