Presidential: why two former columnists of “We are not lying” are committed

INTERVIEW

They go to the other side of the media scene. Journalist Aymeric Caron and lawyer Charles Consigny, both former columnists for the show We are not in bed on France 2, have decided to engage in politics and support a candidate for the 2022 presidential campaign. Commitments that echo that of Eric Zemmour, also powered by Laurent Ruquier’s talk show. Guests of Media culture Monday, the two ex-columnists explained the reasons for their political commitment at the microphone of Philippe Vandel.

Aymeric Caron’s desire to run for the legislative elections

If Aymeric Caron has “very good memories” of his three years spent on the show, highlighting the long time dedicated to interviews, he founded the “Ecological Revolution for the living”, a radical and anti-speciesist ecology party in 2018 , and decided to support the candidacy of Jean-Luc Mélenchon . “All the members (of our) movement consider that the ecology of rupture, necessary, is with Jean-Luc Mélenchon (…). There is a project of complete rupture with the current economic model, which does not is not the case for example with the Greens”, argues the journalist on Europe 1.

A political commitment which could take a concrete form for Aymeric Caron, who is thinking of standing for the legislative elections under the banner of “The Popular Union” which carries the candidacy of rebellious France. A commitment immediately tackled by his ex-colleagueWe are not in bed, Eric Naulleau, who supports him Eric Zemmour . “I don’t care what he can say,” replies Aymeric Caron. “When one is reduced to being a stooge of a far-right candidate, one is discreet,” continues the journalist.

“The guests were quite weak”, explains Charles Consigny

For his part, Charles Consigny has decided to support the campaign of Valérie Pécresse and the Republicans, and looks back on his television adventure alongside Laurent Ruquier. “I found the guests quite weak in reality, they were people I didn’t want to attack (…). They didn’t ask me anything, I saw what this role of “sniper” was, but I had rather a kind of benevolence towards the guests”, affirms the editorialist of the Point at the microphone of Europe 1.

And Charles Consigny to explain his rallying to the candidate LR: “It was I who offered to get involved behind her. I wanted to do this campaign because I think she is the best candidate, the most credible, the most competent (…). The extreme right is very high, Zemmour makes despicable speeches. We need a general mobilization of the right “. The lawyer assures that he helps Valérie Pécresse “to mobilize civil society”, and proposes “to animate and set up support committees”.
