Queen Elizabeth is celebrating her 70th anniversary of the throne, but was unable to attend the big “Platinum Party” on Saturday evening in front of Buckingham Palace. Her eldest son Charles remembered her in a touching speech.

This celebration will go down in history! On Saturday evening, June 4, 2022, the band Queen, together with Adam Lambert, 40, Rod Stewart, 77, Elton John, 75, Diana Ross, 78, and Alicia Keys, 41, shook the stage in front of Buckingham Palace . Around 22,000 spectators were able to watch the spectacle live, including many members of the Royal Family. Only the star of the evening, Queen Elizabeth, 96, could not attend her “Platinum Party” for health reasons.

Still, she was thought of the whole time. Right at the start of the celebrations, the monarch got her guests laughing with a skit she recorded with Paddington Bear. It got emotional when Prince Charles, 73, and Prince William, 39, entered the stage and remembered their head of family.

Prince Charles in particular chose particularly sentimental lines. After his son’s call to fight climate change, Charles, who was joined on stage by his wife Duchess Camilla, 74, began his speech with the loving lines “Your Majesty, Mummy” and stressed: “You got us in our difficult times times. And you bring us together to celebrate moments of pride, joy and happiness. You met us and talked to us. You laughed with us and cried with us and most of all you were there for us, 70 years long.”

He also paid tribute to the monarch with the words: “You promised to serve your whole life – and you keep it. That’s why we’re here. That’s what we’re celebrating tonight.”

“You are our head of state. And you are also our mother”

Prince Charles also spoke about the Queen’s ever-growing family, which now has 12 great-grandchildren, and her dual roles as ruler and royal matriarch. “Your family now spans four generations. You are our head of state. And you are also our mother,” said Charles. In another touching moment, Charles recalled his “much missed” late father, the Duke of Edinburgh, calling him “My papa” and assuring that the Queen’s husband was there “in spirit”.

At the end of his emotional performance, he then asked the audience to clap extra loud for his mother: “Ladies and gentlemen, I know that the Queen is following these celebrations with great emotion, having, I hope, finished her sandwich with jam , and that she deeply regrets not being with us in person tonight. But Windsor Castle is barely 20 miles away so if we cheer loud enough maybe she can hear us. So let’s all cheer together.” The audience didn’t need to be told twice – and cheered.
