At a moving meeting with refugees from all over the world, Prince Charles was more emotional than ever on Wednesday (March 9, 2022). The exchange with the now homeless victims of war and violence brought tears to the eyes of the British heir to the throne. He also opened up to people and talked about a long-cherished wish that he was never able to fulfill.

It is fate that Prince Charles, 73, does not leave cold. On March 9, 2022, Queen Elizabeth’s son, 95, visited St. Luke’s Church in London’s Earl’s Court district. There he met people who had terrible things behind them: refugees who suddenly left their home countries of Afghanistan, Syria and also Ukraine were expelled because war and destruction threatened their lives. In the face of these fates, the royal was unusually open.

Prince Charles: His lifelong dream was destroyed by bombs and gun violence

During his visit, Charles met people who receive help and support through programs specially initiated for this purpose at regular meetings in the church. The talks with the refugees took the Prince of Wales visibly. “I just can’t take it. Such a total tragedy,” he said with tears in his eyes as he responded to the dramatic stories.

Moved by the stories, the royal suddenly became sentimental and very private. “I’ve always wanted to visit Syria and Yemen all my life – and now so much has been destroyed by these terrible wars and conflicts,” he said with sincere regret.

His heart belongs to the Middle East

“It is an immeasurable tragedy for me that at this moment there is so much death and destruction around the world, causing so much misery for so many people like you who are forced to leave their countries,” added the 73-year-old added. Faced with the threat of climate change, the conflicts seemed “even more insane” to him.

Prince Charles has always felt a special connection to the Middle East. In 2004 he traveled to Iraq. Six years later he paid a surprise visit to British troops in Afghanistan. It was only in November 2021 that he completed an official four-day tour to Egypt and Jordan with Duchess Camilla, 74.
