Prince Daniel: Palace takes measures to protect against Corona virus

Over ten years ago, Prince Daniel of Sweden, 46, had to have a new kidney transplanted. His father Olle Westling, 75, was the donor. Even if the husband of Crown Princess Victoria, 42, is in good health, Daniel belongs to the risk group for an infection with the spreading corona virus.

Prince Daniel's official dates have been canceled

As a precautionary measure, all official appointments of the heir to the throne were canceled on Monday (March 16). Instead, the two met with representatives of Sweden's municipalities and regions (SKR) to discuss the current situation in the country. This took place in Haga Castle, not in the Royal Castle.

Further measures were taken to protect everyone involved: no handshaking was carried out and those present kept a generous distance from one another.

Infection in school shortly after Prince Daniel's visit

Appointments outside the royal walls, in which Prince Daniel was supposed to take part, are gradually being canceled. After Daniel visited a school, it became known that it had to be closed due to an infection. This does not pose a danger to Prince Daniel, as the headmaster clarified: "It is true that one person was tested positive. But this person was not in the same building with Prince Daniel". At the private school of his daughter Princess Estelle, eight, classes were temporarily suspended due to a positive test for the Corona virus.

It remains to be seen to what extent Prince Daniel will support his wife Victoria with appointments in the coming weeks. This now faces the task of showing presence together with King Carl Gustaf, 73, in such an uncertain time, but also of protecting themselves and their families.
