When the streaming service Netflix finally announced the release date of the fifth season of “The Crown” at the end of September, fans of the British royals around the world were heartbroken. Eight new episodes of the successful series have been available since November 9, 2022. A small miracle, because Prince Harry wanted to prevent a continuation of the fictional processing of his family history quite early on.
Prince Harry, 38, didn’t really want it to get that far: In the new season of “The Crown” his childhood years are illuminated, but above all the divorce drama about his parents Princess Diana, † 36, and today’s King Charles, 73, and the tragic death of his mother in Paris in 1997. As soon as the second season was released in 2017, the royal wanted to pull the emergency brake, reports journalist Angela Levin in an interview with “The Sun”.

At the time, the author met Queen Elizabeth’s grandson, †96, at Kensington Palace to interview him for her planned biography about him. “Have you seen ‘The Crown’?” he asked her immediately after the greeting. When Levin said no, he insisted, “You have to,” but immediately added, “But I’ll insist it stop because I don’t want to be there.”

The casting team did a good job selecting the young actors. Above all, Will Powell bears a resemblance to his real-life role model.

Nevertheless, the new episodes should be a stab in the heart for Harry. And he’s not alone in that. Even in the run-up to the publication, so shortly after the death of the Queen, there was plenty of headwind for the makers. Above all, scenes that indicate an affair between Prince Philip, † 99, who died in 2021, and family friend Penny Knatchbull, 69, caused outrage.

Is Harry backing down on Netflix?
The author Angela Levin, however, seems to have been particularly concerned about the portrayal of Princess Diana. She asked Harry to do something about it, she explains in an interview. “If he has a bad conscience, he could do something about it – of course he could,” said Levin, referring to the Sussexes’ million-dollar deal with Netflix, which apparently inhibits them from intervening. “You could give them their money back and walk away. But he doesn’t want to,” the journalist claims, getting noticeably angry: “You can’t stand there and expect people to respect you when Netflix embarrasses your mother and you don’t walk away. “
Well, the kid has fallen down the well by now, as the old saying goes. The fifth season of “The Crown” has arrived in living rooms worldwide. Maybe even in a villa in Montecito, California.
