The Archbishop of Canterbury seems to feel sorry for Harry and Meghan. He compares the couple’s situation to a prison sentence.

Was Prince Harry (36) born into some kind of prison sentence due to his royal status? At least that’s what Justin Welby (65), Archbishop of Canterbury, thinks. He married Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan (39) in May 2018 and now asked in a new interview with the “FT Magazine” of the “Financial Times”: “It’s life imprisonment with no parole, isn’t it?”

In his opinion, one only has to look back to the 1930s and consider the fall of Edward VIII (1894-1972). The former King of England abdicated in December 1936, but was “still a celebrity and was persecuted everywhere,” says the Archbishop. What is it that makes the British royal family so fascinating? The cleric seems to explain it by saying that people would expect “to be superhuman”.
