They show their love: Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan kissed on stage at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games.

Romance was not neglected when Prince Harry (37) and Duchess Meghan (40) appeared at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games in The Hague. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially opened the sporting event for disabled soldiers on Saturday (April 16). According to media reports, the Royals came hand in hand to the ceremony in the evening.

At the opening event, Duchess Meghan wore a white off-the-shoulder top combined with dark high-waisted pants. Her husband appeared in a gray suit and white shirt. According to reports, Meghan spoke first on stage. She thanked the participating soldiers and greeted the Ukrainian team. She then introduced Prince Harry as her “incredible husband” and “the father of our little ones, Archie and Lili.”

The Duke and Duchess exchanged a kiss on stage before Harry, the founder of the Invictus Games, began his speech. In it, the Royal paid tribute to the members of the Ukraine team for their “bravery in deciding to come and be here tonight”.

The Sussexes had performed before the opening ceremony in The Hague, The Netherlands. They attended a reception hosted by the host team and also attended the first medal decider, an auto obstacle course, of the Invictus Games on Saturday morning.

Special meaning for the Sussexes

The games will continue until next Friday (April 22nd). Prince Harry will be present at several competitions. It was only announced a few days ago that Duchess Meghan was accompanying him to the Netherlands. The Duke of Sussex, who was twice on combat duty in Afghanistan, founded the Invictus Games in 2014. His visit to the Warrior Games in the USA in 2013 is said to have inspired him to create an international sporting event especially for injured soldiers to call. He acts as patron of the event.

The Invictus Games hold special meaning for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. At the third edition in 2017 in Toronto, Canada, Prince Harry caused a surprise: he had his first official appearance with his future wife Meghan. The 2018 Games then took place in Sydney. Both Prince Harry and Meghan were there again.
