Prince Harry (39) and Duchess Meghan (42) have chosen this year’s winner of their Archewell Award – and surprised the winner with the award. On her foundation’s website The couple, who have withdrawn from the British royal family, released a video in which they met Dr. Congratulations to Joy Buolamwini himself. The computer scientist is a digital activist and founder of the Algorithmic Justice League. The organization works to overcome racist and sexist biases in AI systems.

She will receive a $100,000 grant from the NAACP-Archewell Foundation’s Digital Civil Rights Award to advance her work on artificial intelligence. Harry and Meghan’s award has been around since 2022. They want to use it to promote a new generation of leaders who stand up for rights in the digital world. “As AI continues to proliferate, it is more important than ever to ensure that these algorithms that act as gatekeepers serve us all and do not undermine the civil rights of marginalized societies,” said Buolamwini. She feels very honored.
