Harry and Meghan’s documentary series has been in the planning for a long time. Supposedly it will be released later this year at the same time as “The Crown”.
Prince Harry (37) and Duchess Meghan (40) have been working on a Netflix documentary series for a long time. The film project is intended to give private insights into their lives after retiring as high-ranking royals. A start date and further details are not yet known. The US celebrity page “Page Six” of the “New York Post” now wants to knowthat the series will appear on the streaming service later this year. Accordingly, the broadcast date could coincide with the fifth season of “The Crown”.
Netflix ‘doesn’t want to be overwhelmed by Harry’s memoir’
“There is a lot to organize and a lot of things that are at play here,” quoted “Page Six” an unspecified source. Netflix wants to “ensure” that the streaming service “isn’t overrun by Harry’s memoirs, which are also due out in the fall.” Netflix is reportedly planning to air the docuseries before the end of the year and shortly after the fifth season of The Crown airs in November. If Harry and Meghan have their way, the series should not be available until next year, the celebrity site reports.
Will Netflix’s alleged plan work? According to the US celebrity site, Harry’s tell-all book is expected to be released before The Crown airs. According to the insider, Netflix executives “knew the book was coming out.” “That’s why they wanted the series this year. They don’t want to wait any longer,” he is quoted as saying.
What is known about Harry and Meghan’s docuseries?
The British “Mirror” reported at the end of June that Harry and Meghan have allegedly won “The Handmaid’s Tale” director Liz Garbus (52) for their Netflix series. In Garbus, the couple would have a filmmaker on board who definitely knows how to capture real life drama: several documentaries she either directed and/or produced herself have been Oscar nominated. For example “The Farm: Angola, USA” (1998), “Killing in the Name” (2011) or most recently “What Happened, Miss Simone?” (2015), a documentary about the US singer and human rights activist Nina Simone (1933-2003).
Already had in May “Page Six” reportedthat the docuseries could become a kind of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”. According to a Hollywood insider, it should be a real docu-soap, including a home story and very private content. Netflix itself has not yet commented on the project, nor on an exact start date for the fifth season of “The Crown”. So far it is only known that the new episodes are expected to appear in November 2022.
