Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan were considering the move long before they stepped down as senior members of the royal family, but a special photo is said to have sealed the decision.

Was this picture really the reason why Prince Harry, 38, and Duchess Meghan, 41, resigned as senior members of the royal family in early 2020 and emigrated to the United States?

A wake-up call for Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan

Of course, there were a lot of motives that made the couple finally break up. The enormous pressure, the differences with Prince William, 40, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, 40, the desire for independence and freedom – but author Andrew Morton believes in his book “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess” that it is above all that Image of Queen Elizabeth, †96, and her heirs, King Charles, 73, Prince William and Prince George, 9, that gave Harry and Meghan the rest to put their decision into action.

The photo depicts the numbers one to three in the line of succession, a normal royal tradition, but that should have been a kind of wake-up call for Harry and Meghan. “The royal couple suspected the entire institution was conspiring against them. When they saw it, the evidence was all around them. The unspoken code was simple: the future of the monarchy was secured, with or without Meghan and Harry.” wrote Morton.

Early talks about retiring

The journalist also revealed on The Mirror’s The Commonwealth podcast that Harry and Meghan began talking about their retirement just six months after their 2018 wedding. “Harry had talks in a London hotel in November 2018 with Oprah Winfrey, 68, just six months after they got married. So pretty early on they started thinking about a different direction in their journey.”
