After threats from the mafia, Princess Amalia had to give up her carefree student life in Amsterdam. How much that gnaws at her, she now shows for the first time in an interview.
During her two-week trip to the Caribbean, Princess Amalia, 19, was finally able to experience a bit of freedom again. The past few months have left their mark on the heir to the Dutch throne.
In September 2022, the first reports emerged that the daughter of Queen Máxima, 51, and King Willem-Alexander, 55, was being massively threatened by the Dutch mafia. Since then, the student has been guarded, was not allowed to move into her shared student flat with friends in Amsterdam, still lives at home, can “hardly leave the house, can’t really go out anymore,” an emotional Máxima quoted the Dutch news agency ANP in October as saying . According to the news service “RTL Nieuws”, Amalia spoke for the first time about her state of mind – on the last day of her first official trip to the royal family.
Princess Amalia: “I miss normal life”
Amalia appears thoughtful, almost worried, as she appears before the press with her parents on February 9th. The past few months have been difficult for her, and the consequences of the threat posed by the criminal organization “Mocro Maffia” have had a life-threatening effect. She was unable to leave her home for her studies in Amsterdam, and continues to live under high security at Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague. The Crown Princess deeply regrets that she cannot lead the “normal life of a student” at the moment.

Princess Amalia very much hopes that the currently almost unbearable situation will change soon and will not last. Does she have plans to continue her studies abroad? The 19-year-old answered very clearly: “I study at the University of Amsterdam.” Their plans don’t go that far yet. She should certainly be happy to be able to study again under hopefully soon normal circumstances.
Finally, the Crown Princess turns to her confidants and to the people: “I would like to thank you very much for the support of friends and family, but also from all parts of the Netherlands and thus also the Caribbean.”
