For the first time in 25 years, Princess Diana’s wedding dress is on display in London’s Kensington Palace.

Princess Diana’s (1961-1997) world-famous wedding dress was presented on Wednesday (June 2nd) in London’s Kensington Palace in the run-up to a new royal fashion show. The show “Royal Style in the Making”, which opens on Thursday (June 3rd), features never-before-seen pieces from the archives of some of the most famous royal fashion designers.

Princess Diana’s David Emanuel dress is in all its splendor with the spectacular, sequined and 7.62 meter long train in a glass showcase in the center of the exhibition. The dress is on loan from Diana’s sons, Prince William (38) and Prince Harry (36), like “Mail Online” reports.

Other exhibits

On show are stylish ensembles that were designed for Princess Diana, Queen Elizabeth II (95) and the Queen Mother (1900-2002). The exhibition also traces the evolution of Diana’s style, from her peach-colored honeymoon outfit to the elegant evening gowns she wore more than a decade later. You can also see original sketches, fabric samples and handwritten notes that designers such as David Emanuel (68), David Sassoon (1792-1864) and Norman Hartnell (1901-1979) used to create unique pieces for their royal customers.

Wedding of superlatives

The British heir to the throne Prince Charles (72) and Lady Diana Spencer (1961-1997), who had just turned 20 at the time, celebrated their wedding on July 29, 1981 in St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. 3500 people attended the ceremony in the cathedral. Two million onlookers lined the streets, 4,000 police officers were on duty. The television broadcast reached more than 700 million viewers worldwide. The marriage officially divorced in 1996.
