During an appearance in London, Princess Kate wore a special pair of earrings: they once belonged to her mother-in-law Diana.

Princess Kate (41) took a very special piece out of her royal jewelry box on Wednesday (November 15th): At an appearance at the Design Museum in London, the wife of Prince William (41) wore a pair of sapphire earrings that were once her deceased mother-in-law Princess Diana (1963-1997). Kate paired the earrings with a purple pants suit.

It is not the first time that Princess Kate has worn the earrings of her predecessor as Princess of Wales. Among other things, the 41-year-old wore the subtle but luxurious jewelry at this year’s Commonwealth Day Service in March and at Trooping the Color in June.

Diana also wore the earrings, which together with a necklace are said to be a wedding gift from the Saudi Crown Prince Fahd (1920-2005), numerous times: for example at the Met Gala in 1996, where she combined them with a matching sapphire and pearl choker a dark blue slip dress. The Princess also wore the jewelry during her legendary dance performance with John Travolta (69) in the White House in 1985 and during a visit to the Munich State Opera in 1987.

The diamond earrings are one of many sapphire jewelry that Princess Diana owned. This also includes the famous engagement ring given to King Charles III. (75) gave her after their engagement in 1981. It also now belongs to Kate: Prince William proposed to her with this ring in 2010. Kate also owns a smaller version of the sapphire earrings and a necklace in the same style.
