Princess Latifa claims to have been detained against her will for three years by her father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Raschid al-Maktoum. This has an end now.

Princess Latifa, 35, now lives with friends and is in talks with lawyers with supporters, reports the British newspaper “Daily Mail” on its website. The princess hopes to leave her native Dubai once and for all and start a new life outside of her father’s “repressive” control.

For a long time the princess has not received any current signs of life. Now there are two new photos on Instagram. The first shows Latifa with two friends in the “Emirates Mall” shopping center, the second with a friend on the terrace of the Italian restaurant “Bice Mara” in front of Dubai’s glittering skyline. For a long time, the now 35-year-old was unable to see them with her own eyes, let alone put her foot in front of the door.

Terrifying reports from captivity

In mid-February 2021, the BBC published video material that the princess was able to smuggle out of her captivity. “I’m in a mansion. I am a hostage and this mansion has been turned into a prison. All the windows are locked, I cannot open any window. There are five policemen and two policewomen in the house outside. I can’t get out and get some fresh air breathe, “says Latifa about her living conditions. She doesn’t know when to release her – or ever at all. She worries for her life and her despair grows day by day.

After this cry for help, the “Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights” stepped in and asked the United Arab Emirates to send a sign of life from Princess Latifa. The ruling family responded with a written statement and denied the allegations made against them. Ultimately, however, the pressure seems to have been too great.

Latifa owes her freedom now to those who fought tirelessly for her and who have not given up in all these years.

Princess Latifa wanted to get away from her father

How did the imprisonment come about? On February 24, 2018, Latifa said he had fled her father’s harsh regime with a friend from Dubai and was picked up by his father’s security guards in the sea off India eight days later. She was then sedated and brought back in a private plane. She has been imprisoned since then.

Before attempting to escape, the royal had recorded a 39-minute video to protect her, in which she spoke in detail about her circumstances and her father. The scenes were uploaded to YouTube on March 11, 2018. She says of the sheikh: “My father is the worst person I have ever met in my life. Pure evil. There is nothing good about him. He is responsible for the deaths of so many people and has lives like that ruined many people. “
