Princess Mako of Japan has been planning her wedding to the middle-class Kei Komuro for several years. In 2021 the couple should finally dare to step in front of the altar – but that has consequences.

Japan’s Princess Mako, 29, accepted her boyfriend Kei Komuro, 29’s marriage proposal in 2017. The couple has been engaged since then, but not yet married. The planned wedding in 2018 was postponed due to financial disputes within the groom’s family.

It has now been announced that Mako and Kei want to appear before the altar this year. The princess loses her royal status through the wedding and is then considered a private person. As “The Times” reports, the 29-year-old should do without a lot more – and voluntarily.

Princess Mako is entitled to a government payout

According to Japanese law, a princess who loses her status due to marriage is traditionally entitled to a government payout. In the case of Princess Mako, this would be $ 1.3 million. According to information that “The Times” should have, the daughter of Crown Prince Akishino wants to forego this sum.

The background is not yet known. Perhaps with this rejection, Princess Mako is a sign of a complete break. Because not only that the 29-year-old has to leave the imperial family. No, Princess Mako was also denied the traditional ceremony at the imperial court, also due to financial misunderstandings. It is uncertain whether the couple will even get married in Japan. In fact, Princess Mako is said to be trying to move to the United States after the wedding.

Kei Komuro lives and works in New York

After the wedding was postponed in 2018, Kei Komuro began his law degree in America, which he successfully completed in May. Komuro has now passed his bar exam in New York, where he wants to practice as a lawyer. It is therefore assumed that Princess Mako will move to her husband in the USA after the wedding and start a new life there – apparently financially independent of her family.
