“Priscilla” in Venice

“Priscilla” celebrates its premiere in Venice. Priscilla Presley will be there to talk about the film and her relationship with Elvis Presley.
Director Sofia Coppola (52) is presenting her new film “Priscilla” at the Venice International Film Festival on September 4th, which is about Priscilla Presley (78) and her relationship with her ex-husband Elvis Presley (1935-1977 ) goes. The former wife of the late “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” is also on site at the Lido. As part of a photo call, she appeared with director Coppola and the main actors Cailee Spaeny (25) and Jacob Elordi (26).
“Priscilla” is represented along with 22 other productions in the competition for the Golden Lion of the film festival. The film will open in US cinemas on October 27, 2023. Seeing her and Elvis’ intimate love story in film form wasn’t easy for Presley, she explained at a press conference.
“Sofia did a great job”
“It’s very difficult to sit there and watch a movie about you, about your life and about your love,” Presley said. At the same time, she praised Coppola’s work: “Sofia did a great job.” The director, with whom Presley spoke several times, also did “her homework”.
“Priscilla” indicates the couple’s relationship from when they first met in Germany, when Priscilla Presley was only 14 years old. It was difficult for her parents to understand “that Elvis would be so interested in me and why,” she continued. She was a “listener” and Elvis poured out his heart to her at the time. He spoke about “his fears, his hopes, the loss of his mother – which he never, ever got over”. She sat there to listen to him and to comfort him.
“It was like we never left each other”
“Oh, it was sex,” according to Presley, people would think. But that wasn’t the case. “I never had sex with him. He was very kind, very gentle, very loving, but he also respected the fact that I was only 14 years old.” In particular, they were mentally aligned, which made their relationship stand out.
Presley didn’t tell anyone at the time that she was dating Elvis. It wasn’t because she didn’t love him that she left him later. “He was the love of my life,” Presley said. The whole lifestyle was so difficult for her. “But it didn’t damage our relationship, we stayed very close. And of course we had our daughter – and I made sure he saw her all the time. It was like we never left each other.”
Their only daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, was born in 1968. In January 2023, the singer died at the age of 54 as a result of complications from a blockage in the small intestine. According to a forensic investigation, this was caused by scar tissue that arose after a bariatric procedure, a weight-loss operation, a few years ago.
