Prisoner by night, burglar by day

Benefiting from an adjustment of sentence, a 23-year-old man, imprisoned at night in the prison of Health in Paris, broke the doors of apartments in uptown areas of the capital during the day to steal luxury jewelry and precious objects. He was arrested by BRB police on Monday.

“What do you want, that’s all I can do.” This is essentially what this man, placed in police custody this week for burglary, told the investigators.

The highwayman scoured the buildings of the chic districts of the capital to find apartments empty of their occupants. After listening from the hallway and knocking once, he leaned against the wall and pounded on the door with his feet until it gave way. A mode of breaking and entering uncommon in the world of delinquency but allowed by the athletic build of the individual. And if by chance, he fell all the same on the inhabitant, never mind, the fellow sequestered the victim, the time to strip him of his precious objects and jewels.

Another unusual element: this man was on semi-freedom: in prison at night, free during the day. A sentence adjustment supposed to promote reintegration by allowing the prisoner to follow a training course or to exercise a professional activity. But barely out of the Health prison early in the morning, he began his rounds.

On the day of his arrest, this Monday, March 14, he was caught in the act in the 16th arrondissement by men from the BRB (Brigade for the repression of banditry) of the Parisian PJ. Dressed entirely in black, cap on his head, the man came out of an apartment with his pockets and a satchel full of jewelry and a dozen top brand watches, loot from at least two burglaries.

In police custody, according to a source close to the case at CNEWS, the suspect admitted the facts which he justifies by his financial difficulties, having no resources and seeing no other way to remedy them.

Sentenced to prison

Tried in immediate appearance on Wednesday March 16 for a burglary, two thefts without burglary and an attempted burglary, all for damages of 70,000 euros, he was sentenced to three years in prison.

Previously known to the police for around fifty facts, he already had six years in prison before this judgment, mainly for acts of theft and violence.
