Problem solved? – Volkswagen calls all Golf 8 to the workshop!

Because of the ongoing software problems with the Golf 8, Volkswagen calls all vehicles of the model to the workshops. A large software update is to be installed there in order to improve applications such as navigation and voice control, said a group spokesman on Wednesday.

The Wolfsburg stressed that it was not about a recall ordered by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. The action has already started. All owners should be written to in spring. Newly produced Golf 8s are also to be equipped with more powerful hardware ex works. The eighth generation of the Golf, launched in 2019, had to struggle with software problems from the start. The quirks in the successful model from Wolfsburg had contributed to the ongoing conflict between the works council and CEO Herbert Diess. The magazine “Auto Motor und Sport” was the first to report on the update. Citing readers, it was said that the Golf 8 had problems with electronic key recognition, incorrectly responding or failing assistance systems, without emergency braking and deviations in the display of the mileage. The traffic sign recognition sometimes detects signs that are not there, the entertainment system sometimes fails completely. Owners feared considerable losses in value of the first Golf 8 production, which could lead to problems with leasing vehicles with the residual values. VW emphasized that there were a few vehicles that had these problems. The company did not comment on the costs of the service campaign.
