Production is ramping up – Tesla has already built the first cars in Berlin

US electrical pioneer Tesla wants to start series production in its Gigafactory in Grünheide near Berlin in December. The first five Model Ys have already been put on their wheels – however, they have not yet been built on the production line.

This is reported by the industry and business newspaper Automobilwoche. The start of the factory was originally planned for July 2021, but it was delayed due to a lack of environmental permits. The approval of the Brandenburg State Office for the Environment is now expected to take place in the coming days. From the beginning of January 1000 units will initially be manufactured per week. Production is then to be ramped up in the middle of the year. According to estimates, Tesla could reach around 30,000 Model Ys in the first half of the year. With full operation, it should be 500,000 units per year. So far, the Model Y for the European market from the Shanghai plant. Around 12,000 workers will one day be employed at Tesla in Grünheide, currently around 1800, with the ramp-up in Grünheide and the start of the new plant in Austin, Texas, 2022 should be the year of the breakthrough in mass production for Tesla.
