Secretary of State for Culture Andrea Mayer (Greens) showed understanding for “the concerns and also the desperation” of the activists. “But I don’t think that actions like these are expedient, because the question arises as to whether they lead to more misunderstanding than to more awareness of the climate catastrophe,” she said in a reaction. “In my view, accepting the risk of irreversible damage to works of art is the wrong approach. Art and culture are allies in the fight against the climate catastrophe, not opponents.”
