PS5: Discord voice chat and VRR in 1440p are on the program for the next update

As usual, it will be necessary to wait a few weeks before the manufacturer deploys this update for the 30 million PS5 owners around the world. But there’s no need to wait until then to list what’s new, starting with the new social features that include the ability to join voice channels on the console’s Discord app. At the same time, screen sharing with another user becomes easier, just select the icon on a friend’s profile. To better gauge a game’s popularity among its friends list, a game’s portal will show who among your contacts owns the game, who is online, and who is currently playing it.

Another feature some have been waiting for is variable refresh rate support (for compatible games) on 1440p displays. This optimization technology also known as VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) appeared on PS5 last spring but was still lacking for users of 1440p resolution. We also retain the possibility of easily transferring data from your PS5 (games, backups, settings, profiles, screenshots, videos) to another PS5 via a Wi-Fi network or a LAN cable. Better late than never.

In addition, filters are finally appearing to better sort games platform by platform (including PS VR and PS VR2 games) in a library that continues to expand over the months, years and generations. Finally, and it’s always taken, updates to the DualSense controller can now be done wirelessly. More details can be found on the PlayStation Blog.
