PUBG: Battlegrounds, huge numbers and freebies after switching to free-to-play

The dice Game Awards 2021, Krafton announced the transition to free-to-play from PUBG: Battlegrounds, his Battle Royale hit, which had already sold more than 75 million copies. The title has been playable for free since January 12, and Steam already hinted that the game’s popularity had skyrocketed again.

Today, Krafton takes stock and delivers official figures. Very big numbers. On PC only, PUBG: Battlegrounds registered more than 690,000 active players since switching to free-to-play, with a growth rate similar to its (meteoric) progression when it was released in 2017. The game thus recorded an increase in new players of 486%, a figure that even climbs to 537% in the CIS, Southeast Asia and South America regions. Average playing time has doubled since switching to free-to-play and even quadrupled on PlayStation 4 and PS5.

Krafton explain that players were wowed by the new tutorials, including basic practice mode, practice matches against the AI, and Lobby Tutorials, ideal modes to practice with the gameplay before diving into real online games. Moreover, the most played cards since the switch to free-to-play are the battlefields ofAngel and of Taego.

The developer will also reward all players with the Check-In Dinner Event, an event that will take place from January 27 (1:00 a.m.) to 30 (00:59 a.m.). All you have to do is log in and play for at least an hour to get special rewards. Until February 17 (00:59), it is even possible to unlock Orbital Vanguard Skins exclusive by logging in three times, with color variations (green, pink, yellow, and blue) to be obtained each week. If you unlock all four colors, you can even get a bonus fifth, red.

PUBG: Battlegrounds is as a reminder playable on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Google Stadia. maps NHP are available on Amazon.
