Public transport subscribers: Free travel throughout Germany

Subscription customers only have to register online for the one-time upgrade, as the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) announced on Monday in Gelsenkirchen. In North Rhine-Westphalia, according to an overview by the VRR, all transport associations are taking part in the campaign, which ends on September 26th.

The local transport industry wants to thank its regular customers for their “patience and flexibility during the Corona crisis”. It is part of the #BesserWeiter campaign, with which the industry is campaigning for trust after many customers switched to cars because of Corona. As a result, the number of passengers had collapsed, which had led to a considerable loss of income.

To register: Germany subscription upgrade

After registration, customers will receive the subscription upgrade as a ticket by email. According to the VRR, around 95 percent of all transport associations and transport companies can then drive without additional costs.

For long-distance trains (ICE, IC and EC) the Deutsche Bahn parallel to the local transport offer, a discounted trial BahnCard 25, which costs 9.90 euros (instead of 17.90 euros) and is valid for three months. Passengers could also save on the journey to the target regions, said the train.
