Purify: that's the reason! | BRIGITTE.de

Why should I purify my body?

The word "detox" sounds so healthy that it could be enough. But it should be worthwhile in many more ways: Our body is freed from toxins and all harmful substances are washed away. We are rewarded with an improved complexion and reduced digestion, which in turn gives us new energy. Of course, a detoxification course is also noticeable on the scales and lets the pounds tumble. One way to lose weight in the long term is not purification!

Like similar fasting cures, detoxification can be the ideal basis for a change in diet and help to rethink our diet in general: we become aware of how much we eat during the day and that our intestines are constantly busy. In addition, people who have experienced fasting report that food can be appreciated again and that even an apple can delight our taste buds in a completely new way.

Where does the term "detox" come from?

Many people are familiar with the word "slag" from metal extraction: during the process of metal extraction there are smelting residues – the so-called slag. Of course, this is not the case in our body. Naturopathy adopted the term centuries ago and used it to describe the Substances that do not belong in the body and burden it in the long run – everything that falls over the back after recycling. Above all, these include:

  • Substances that our body can only excrete insufficiently, e.g. Cholesterol – the reason for this is usually that our "detoxification police" (liver, kidney, intestine) are overloaded.
  • Cell waste: Our body continuously produces metabolic waste products that are disposed of by our cells, this process is known as so-called autophagocytosis. In general, the better it works, the healthier a person is.
  • The group that is the most tangible for us: products toxic to the body such as nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, medicines and unhealthy foods. Polluted air and cosmetics also belong to this group.

What options do I have to detoxify?

In order to do something for our health, we can use various methods of detoxification. The most important detoxification treatments include:

Detoxification is usually preceded by colon cleansing. This should quasi reset the bowel to zero and can help the body to build a healthy intestinal flora with an appropriate, gentle diet.

Purification tips

The ideal duration of a detoxification course is three to four weeks. At the same time, you should stick to the following tips:

  • Eliminate all ready meals from your diet and instead opt for fresh food: fruits and vegetables are ideal for a healthy acid-base balance.
  • Avoid foods with refined sugar and white flour.
  • Reduces the consumption of poisons such as alcohol and nicotine – and also caffeine and sugar!
  • Drink plenty: Best 2 to 2.5 liters a day, still water or herbal teas are ideal.

The general rule: Before you start such a cure, you should speak to your doctor. Detoxification cures of all kinds can strain the organism and could even be dangerous if certain pre-existing conditions exist.

Living nonsense: is there criticism of detoxification?

Yes. Some scientists think detoxification is nonsense. They assume that the body's detoxification organs (i.e. liver, kidneys, skin and intestines) are also able to rid us of toxins and pollutants. Colon cleansing is also nonsense if you have a well-functioning digestive system.

If you have digestive problems, you can test the colon cleansing and the subsequent detox to find out whether you feel better afterwards. In general, a cure can help to rethink and change his diet from scratch.

Danger: Pharmacies often offer expensive detoxifiers, but they don't work.
