The daughter of the Ukrainian oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk (67) and the well-known TV presenter Oksana Martschenko (48), Darja Medvedchuk (18), wanted to study in Geneva. As the “Tages-Anzeiger” reported, however, her visa was apparently withdrawn at short notice. Was her closeness to Russian President Vladimir Putin (69) doomed?
Putin is a friend of Darya Medvedchuk’s father, the head of the largest pro-Russian party in Ukraine. Putin is also Darja’s goddess. The god of the oligarch’s daughter also comes from the Russian elite: It is the wife of the former Russian President and Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev (56), Svetlana Medvedeva (56).
State Secretariat for Migration is silent
Father Medvedschuk senses political reasons for the visa withdrawal, as he says in an interview with his own TV station. Darja passed the entrance exam and received a study visa. But shortly before Darja’s departure for Geneva, Switzerland completely unexpectedly “canceled the visa”. The West has shown its true colors once again, said Medvedschuk. “But I will continue to oppose foreign influence.”
The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) responsible in Switzerland does not want to comment on individual cases at the request of the newspaper because of data and privacy protection. However, according to the report, no person by the name of Darja Medvedschuk was ever enrolled at the University of Geneva.
Did Switzerland cancel the visa under pressure from the USA? Viktor Medvedchuk has been on the US sanctions list since 2014 because of his support for the annexation of Crimea by Russia. The US embassy in Bern did not want to take a position on the “Tages-Anzeiger” on the question of the US’s role in the alleged visa revocation.
Last meeting before the annexation of Crimea
Viktor Medvedchuk has been under pressure in Ukraine for some time. He was placed under house arrest in the spring of 2021. The reason: He is said to have betrayed state secrets to Russia. The measure has just been extended by 60 days. He is also said to have financed the pro-Russian insurgents in the Donbass region. Medvedschuk rejects the allegations.
According to Viktor Medvedschuk, Darja has not met Godi Putin personally for a long time. The last meeting took place before the annexation of Crimea in 2014. At that time, the Russian President gave his daughter a bouquet of flowers and a teddy bear. (noo)
