PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones) – The airline company Qatar Airways is claiming compensation of $ 618 million (around 546 million euros) from Airbus in the context of the dispute between the two groups over the A350, a Reuters reported on Thursday.
Qatar Airways lodged a complaint in early December with the High Court of Justice in London after pinning down 13 of its Airbus A350s due to surface wear on the fuselages. For its part, Airbus claims to have identified the cause of the problem and provided the necessary advice to its customers for the continued operation of the aircraft.
“Airbus acknowledges receipt of claims from Qatar Airways which we refute in full,” commented a spokesperson for the group to the Agefi-Dow Jones agency on Thursday, without however confirming the amount of compensation claimed.
The problems invoked by Qatar Airways “do not constitute a valid basis for the immobilization of the aircraft or the payment of financial compensation, nor do they justify the refusal of Qatar Airways to take delivery of other A350s”, he said. -he adds.
Airbus had previously argued that the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) had confirmed that degradation of the fuselage surfaces had no impact on the flight ability of the A350 fleet.
