After the marathon game, Alcaraz strikes

Carlos Alcaraz convincingly reached the semi-finals in his first appearance in Basel. The number 1 in the world defeated his buddy Pablo Carreno Busta in 99 minutes 6: 3, 6: 4 in the Spanish quarter-final duel. In an attractive duel, in a 13-minute marathon game, Alcaraz missed what was perhaps the decisive break to make it 4: 3 in the 2nd set. But as a result, the 19-year-old showed why he is at the top. With a one-minute service game, he made it 4:4 before breaking Carreno Busta to make it 5:4. After that, Alcaraz served the match home. In the semi-finals, Juan Carlos Ferrero’s protégé meets Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime.

Bublik cannot ask enough for Auger-Aliassime

After beating Miomir Kecmanovic (SRB) 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 16, Félix Auger-Aliassime spoke of “one of the best matches of his entire career”. A day later, the Canadian (ATP 9) made another convincing appearance at the Swiss Indoors. The 22-year-old also came through in two sets against Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan (ATP 38) and won 6: 2, 6: 3. Auger-Aliassime didn’t allow a single breakball. With his 4th service breakthrough of the game, he secured entry into the semi-finals after 71 minutes.

Rune remains without losing a set

Late on Friday evening, Holger Rune completed the semi-final tableau in Basel. Also in the 3rd game the Dane (ATP 25) remained without losing a set. The 19-year-old won 7: 6 (7: 0), 6: 2 against the French qualifier Arthur Rinderknech (ATP 51). After the tiebreak of the tight 1st set was lost to zero, Rinderknech’s resistance visibly decreased. Rune now meets Wawrinka conqueror Roberto Bautista Agut on Saturday, who has also not yet lost a set in the course of the tournament.
