Ann Fortune FitzRoy worked for Queen Elizabeth II for almost 70 years, now she has died. Another stroke of fate for the queen.

Queen Elizabeth II (95) mourns the loss of an employee and a friend. As “The Sun” reports, the Duchess of Grafton, Ann Fortune FitzRoy, died on December 3, 2021 at the age of 101. The Duchess worked for the British Crown for 69 years, most recently as “Mistress of the Robes” responsible for the Queen’s dresses and jewelry – even if the title is more of a formal courtesy title.

Ann Fortune FitzRoy came from a wealthy English family. In 1946 the second cousin of Queen Mum (1900-2002) married the future Duke of Grafton, with whom she has five children. In 1953, the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, the Duchess entered the service of the Queen, initially as Lady of the Bedchamber, a kind of personal assistant. The Duchess of Grafton became a close confidante and friend of the Queen over the years. The Queen was the godmother of the Duchess’ second daughter.

Next bereavement for the Queen

For Queen Elizabeth II, the death of Ann Fortune FitzRoy is yet another close-knit bereavement within a year. Her husband, Prince Philip, died on April 9, 2021 at the age of 99. In addition, the Queen lost her 88-year-old cousin Lady Mary Colman in January 2021 and her husband Sir Timothy Colman in September, who died at the age of 91.
