Prince Philip, who died on April 9, would have celebrated his 100th birthday on Thursday (June 10). Queen Elizabeth II (95) now paid tribute to her husband with a special gesture. In memory of him, she had a rose planted at Windsor Castle the previous evening, bearing Prince Philips’ name.

“Duke of Edinburgh” roses are sold

The “Duke of Edinburgh” rose impresses with its pink and white flowers. The plant was presented to the Queen by the President of the Royal Horticultural Society, Keith Weed. The Queen is the patron of this horticultural association. You look “beautiful”, said the monarch according to the “People” magazine at the sight of the flower. The rose was planted in the East Terrace Garden at Windsor Castle. Philip is said to have played a key role in the design of the garden.

Who likes the rose: Several flowers of the variety are to be sold. A portion of the proceeds will go to Prince Philips founded “The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Living Legacy Fund”. This supports disadvantaged children.

In mid-March, Prince Philip returned home after spending a month in two London clinics. On April 9, he died of old age at the age of 99. The Duke of Edinburgh “died peacefully at Windsor Castle on the morning of April 9,” said an official statement from the British royal family.
