Queen Elizabeth II has been the Queen of Great Britain since 1952. The big anniversary will be celebrated throughout the year in 2022.

For 2022 the palace is planning numerous events around a very special anniversary. In the coming year, it will be 70 years since Queen Elizabeth II (95) ascended the throne on February 6, 1952 at the age of 25. The platinum anniversary is due to be celebrated year-round in the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world, it has now announced.

The Queen will be the first to celebrate such an anniversary. Both Elizabeth II and other members of the royal family will travel across the country to attend a variety of appointments.

Four special days in June

The central point of the celebrations will be a weekend in summer 2022. The celebration is to take place from June 2nd to 5th, 2022. Several events are planned for the four days on which the British will receive an additional holiday.

“Trooping the Color”, the annual military parade in honor of the Queen’s birthday, is to be held on Thursday. A deployment of 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians is planned. On the same day, beacons are to be lit across Great Britain, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, the British overseas territories and the individual capitals of the Commonwealth of Nations.

A service in St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and other events that will be announced at a later date will follow on June 3rd. On June 4th, the Queen and other royals will attend the derby at Epsom Downs Racecourse. After that the British “BBC” will host and broadcast a party in Buckingham Palace. Several world stars are expected to perform during a special live concert. It is currently not known which artists or bands will perform.

The party weekend will then be concluded on Sunday with two further events. “The Big Lunch”, which has been held annually since 2009, aims to bring citizens across the UK closer together – this time as part of the celebrations. For example, at barbecues, picnics or street parties, people should meet and share food. Finally, a pageant is to take place in front of Buckingham Palace and in the surrounding streets, to which more than 5,000 participants are expected – including street performers, musicians, theater actors and circus performers.
