British royals congratulate the EM heroines despite breaking a taboo

Prince William even allows himself to be hugged and Queen Elizabeth interrupts her vacation in Balmoral: the British royals congratulate the women’s national soccer team so warmly on their victory at the European Championship.
After the England women’s national soccer team won the European Championship final against Germany 2-1 in extra time on Sunday, July 31, 2022, the British Royals also congratulated the female soccer players.
Queen Elizabeth interrupts Balmoral holiday for Women’s EM win
Queen Elizabeth, 96, said on her Instagram: “My heartiest congratulations and those of my family to you all on winning the European Women’s Football Championship. It is a great achievement for the whole team, including the coaches. The European Championship and your performance has been justly commended. However, your success goes well beyond the trophy it deserves.”
In another post in Stories, the British Queen also emphasized the overriding importance of this triumph. “You all set an example that will be an inspiration to girls and women of today and generations to come. I hope you will be as proud of the impact you have had on your sport as you are of today’s result. Elizabeth R [Regina, Red.]”
Queen’s son Prince Charles, 73, and grandson Prince William, 40, also shared the first message on Stories on the Clarence House and Cambridges accounts.
Prince William and Duchess Catherine break taboos
A special scene is also recorded in the Instagram feed of William and Duchess Catherine, 40. In the second photo, England defender Leah Williamson, 25, can be seen giving the royal a warm hug at the awards ceremony. A taboo that was also broken by some other professional athletes, as was also clearly seen in the TV broadcasts. According to etiquette, royals are not hugged.

And how did football fan Prince William react? He embraced those who wanted it, beaming with joy. He congratulated the others with a handshake.
