Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the throne will soon be 70 years old. Buckingham Palace has already announced the full program for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Now there are new details about the course of the celebration.

Cheers Queen Elizabeth! The 95-year-old celebrates her jubilee on February 6, 2022 – the day her father King George VI. died and she had to follow in his footsteps.

Queen Elizabeth: The anniversary of her father’s death is her anniversary

In recent years, Queen Elizabeth has spent the anniversary of her father’s death at Sandringham Castle. Here her beloved papa breathed his last. But because of the corona pandemic, the Queen did not travel to Norfolk as usual for Christmas. It is therefore unclear where she will be on February 6th.

Because: Most of the celebrations will take place later. The big platinum anniversary weekend is planned for June. The 2nd and 3rd of June were therefore declared public holidays. However, it is not yet known which events the Queen will attend in person because of her health. It is expected that she will be actively supported by Prince Charles, 73, and Duchess Camilla, 74, as well as Prince William, 39, and Duchess Catherine, 40.

The Queen announces a nationwide pudding competition

Part of the anniversary celebrations are already beginning with the nationwide pudding contest hosted by Fortnum & Mason department store. Hobby chefs are expected to submit their recipe for a new pudding dedicated to the Queen by February. Then in May there will be a 90-minute show celebrating British history at Windsor Castle. More than 500 horses and 1000 performers will be present.

The first day (2 June) of the four-day celebration begins with the Queen’s traditional birthday parade – Trooping the Color – on Horse Guards Parade. More than a thousand soldiers with horses and bands are expected. In addition, more than 500 lights will be lit throughout the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, British Overseas Territories and Commonwealth countries. A thanksgiving service for Queen Elizabeth’s long reign will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral on 3 June.

Party at the palace

On Saturday (June 4th) the Queen hosts a “Platinum Party at the Palace”. The British broadcaster BBC has organized a live concert with “some of the world’s biggest entertainment stars” and tickets will be raffled off. The platinum jubilee ends on Sunday with the “Big Jubilee Lunch”. Britons are encouraged to get together in their neighborhoods to eat and celebrate – more than 200,000 such parties are expected.

A record is set to be set in Windsor by erecting the longest picnic table at over 500 metres. The Brandenburg town of Templin holds the current record with 505 meters. “We’re trying to encourage people to come together on June 5th to thank the Queen, but also neighbours, friends and people who have made a difference over the last two years. “About 500m picnic tables is our goal, which is approx corresponds to 1,600 people. That’s the goal – if we can make it a little longer that’s fantastic, but that’s the minimum. The idea is for everyone in the community from all walks of life to come together for a celebration,” organizer Lisa Hunter told the Telegraph.

A large festival with over 5,000 performers from the Commonwealth will also be held in Great Britain’s capital to present the Queen’s reign history using music, theatre, artistry and the latest technologies. In addition, 200 silk flags painted by children on the subject of climate change will form a “river of hope” in a procession. After this extended weekend of celebrations, the dress worn by Queen Elizabeth at her coronation will be on display at Windsor Castle.

Queen Elizabeth is the longest-serving monarch in British history. Queen Victoria reigned for 63 years and celebrated her Diamond Jubilee shortly before her death. No British monarch has ever achieved platinum jubilee.
