Knowing right away what the potential partner really wants would not only be nerve-friendly, but also time-saving. What if we say: It works!
Who does not know it? Sometimes we date someone and intuitively guess who is sitting across from us – whether they just want a bit of fun or are someone looking for a long-term relationship. What we usually label as “gut feeling” is a bit more than butterflies or a queasy feeling.
Science confirms: woman knows
The Australian scientists Antar and Stephen wondered if we can tell from each other’s face whether it should be a quick number or a long relationship? To find out, 123 white subjects were asked to assess themselves. They were then presented with photos of the participants of the opposite sex with the same questionnaire. The result of your study? Women can correctly assess how high the tendency is among men to engage in sexual contact even without an emotional connection. Whether your counterpart is more interested in casual sex could be seen from these facial features: elongated face, high forehead, pronounced jaw, long nose and large eyes. Conversely, the determination of this so-called sociosexuality does not work reliably. It is not yet possible to say exactly why this is.
A man’s nose …
… says nothing about his Johannes. Or about how suitable he really is for dating. What the study does not take into account are facial expressions, gestures and, of course, personal values and experiences. These are all important indicators that speak for or against a relationship afterwards. And the best way to find this out – regardless of the study or not – is through discussions.
