Arcom has reappointed the current president of Radio France, Sibyle Veil, as head of the institution for another five years.

SIn a big surprise, the Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication (Arcom) confirmed Sibyle Veil in her position as President of Radio France. In office since 2018, the current boss of the public radio group has been renewed for five years. “After hearing the candidates and following a vote by secret ballot, Arcom appointed Mrs. Sibyle Veil as President of Radio France for five years from April 16, 2023”, wrote the regulator in a press release.
There were three candidates for the post, all of whom were interviewed by Arcom on Monday, December 19: Sibyle Veil, journalist Florent Chatain and Maïa Wirgin, secretary general of the Court of Auditors. The current president defended a project entitled “New generations”. “Young people bring about revolutions in usage and cultural revolutions that end up imposing themselves. Which means that if we manage to win this battle, we will have succeeded in winning all the others”, argued the leader, calling for “continue to build a strong audio pole within the public service”.
At the end of June, she declared herself, in an interview with the Figaro, opposed to the idea of a major merger in public broadcasting and said he wanted to know the state’s plans before applying for a second term.
“Very honored by the decision of the Arcom college and very happy to continue with all the employees of Radio France for this magnificent house of radio, music and service. 5 more years, what a joy”, she reacted after the announcement of her renewal on Twitter.
A particular context
The public radio group aligned record audience figures last year – 15.4 million daily listeners on average – and has two of its stations, France Inter and France Info, among the three most listened to radio stations in the country. . But this appointment comes in a particular context: that of financial uncertainty after the abolition of the audiovisual license fee, campaign promise of Emmanuel Macron recorded in early August.

Coming from the same promotion at the ENA as Emmanuel Macron, Sibyle Veil was adviser to Nicolas Sarkozy at the Élysée, then director of transformation at the AP-HP, before entering Radio France in 2015.
