Rape and sexual harassment, Ubisoft at the heart of the scandal

In recent days, numerous testimonies from employees or ex-employees of the French video game studio have multiplied on social networks.

This week, the world of video games is shaken by several cases of sexism or sexual assaults that come to light. Dozens of women speak up on social media to exhibit acts of discrimination, harassment or sexual assault of which they were victims, in particular withinUbisoft. The French video game company has thus announced the opening of internal investigations.

The group faces several testimonies of employees or ex-employees, remained anonymous, targeting executives of two studios in Canada, and denouncing facts in Bulgaria and the United States. If the facts took place 6 years ago, she decided to confide in her experience by "guilt"after learning that other women had been victims of similar acts by the same individual.

A streamer also explained that a creative director from Toronto "drunk and enraged" had "strangled an employee at a Far Cry party", one of the most famous franchises in'Ubisoft. A testimony which is cold in the back but which would not be isolated. However, the assailant received no punishment.

The testimonies denounce an atmosphere "incredibly toxic to women"while one of them confides that one of her colleagues had not hesitated to ask her for a blowjob while another reveals that a creative director of the Montreal studio simply "licked the face".

In a press release, Ubisoft apologized for the behavior of some of his staff and announced the opening of several investigations. "We are sincerely sorry. We are committed to creating an inclusive and safe environment for our teams, our players and our communities. It is clear today that we have failed to achieve this goal," declared the company. "Based on the findings [of these investigations], we are committed to taking all appropriate disciplinary measures. We are also auditing our existing policies, procedures and systems to understand where they have failed, and us ensure we can better prevent, detect and punish inappropriate behavior", she concluded.

This week's live video game platform Twitch also made the decision to ban streamers accused of sexual harassment by immediately closing their accounts.
