Rated 1.5 out of 5: 27 years later, this 90s adventure film will have a remake

Announced in 2020, the remake of the adventure film “Anaconda” with Jennifer Lopez could feature famous actors in their own roles.

In 1997, Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube and Jon Voight took us into the Amazon jungle on the trail of the largest of reptiles: the Anaconda.

27 years later, the largest snake in the world will return to the cinema. Announced in 2020 by Sony Pictures, just before the Covid-19 pandemic, the feature film written by Evan Daugherty (Divergent, Tomb Raider) and Tom Gormican (A Talent in Solid Gold) – who should also direct the film – should have a meta approach if we are to believe the recent statements of Jeff Sneider during The Hot Mic podcast.

Like his previous film A Talent in Solid Gold, in which Nicolas Cage played a different version of himself, the new Anaconda should therefore feature famous actors playing amplified versions of themselves in a film adventures when things take a realistic turn.

To date, no actor has yet been announced for the casting and we therefore do not know if the original actors of Luis Llosa’s film and the sequels Anacondas: In Pursuit of the Blood Orchid (2004), Anaconda 3: The Heir with David Hasselhoff and the TV movie Anacondas 4: Trail of Blood will reprise their role. In 2015, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, a cross-over with the killer crocodile film series Lake Placid, was released.

Jennifer Lopez & Ice Cube

In Anaconda, Jennifer Lopez played an anthropologist who came with her team (among whom Ice Cube), make a documentary on an unknown people in the Amazon. The team then came to the aid of Paul Sarone (Jon Voight), a snake hunter whose boat had broken down. But very quickly the mad hunter took the team hostage and set out in pursuit of the largest of the reptiles, the Anaconda, which crushes its victims before swallowing them whole.

With $135 million at the worldwide box office, this film, hated by critics and rated 1.5 stars out of 5 by AlloCiné internet users, ultimately became a classic of 90s action cinema.
