“Reactionary”, “addition of measures”: oppositions crush Gabriel Attal’s general policy speech

Gabriel Attal delivered his general policy speech to the deputies of the National Assembly. The Prime Minister announced new measures that he wishes to put in place to impose a “debureaucratization” and a “de-bureaucratization of France”, he also wishes to go further in the “reform of unemployment insurance, new conditions for the RSA and many others. A speech which did not fail to provoke a reaction from the political class.

The “most reactionary speech in a century” for Mélenchon

The first to react was Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The founder of France Insoumise described the Prime Minister’s speech as “the most reactionary speech in a century”. “He harshly punishes the ungrateful: elimination of the minimum wage, compulsory free work for the RSA”. Jean-Luc Mélenchon accuses the Prime Minister of wanting to “forcibly generalize economic liberalism” which would have “destroyed industry, agriculture, health and education”.

Mathilde Panot deplores the lack of new measures to appease the anger of farmers. According to her, the emergency for the country is “the demacronization of this country and quickly because the people can no longer bear this policy.” In addition, the president of the La France insoumise-Nupes group calls on all deputies to vote for the motion of censure, a real vote of no confidence against the government: “Those who do not vote for the motion of censure will be de facto in the majority in this government”. Mathilde Panot believes that Gabriel Attal “has neither the confidence of the Assembly nor the confidence of the citizens”.

Fabien Roussel, for his part, points out the lack of “concrete announcements for farmers and workers”. The national secretary of the French Communist Party believes that the general policy speech was “very liberal, very very right-wing”. “It’s not Gabriel Attal, it’s Gabriel Thatcher,” he added on BFMTV.

“An addition of measures” denounces Ciotti

Éric Ciotti, the leader of the Republicans, denounces “an addition of measures” which do not make “major reforms”. He castigates a form of “betrayal on the AME” (which must be reformed in the summer) and expresses his “disappointment” over the lack of new measures to respond to the “anger of farmers”: “Nothing new announce, no questioning of the excess of standards and free trade treaties”. On the migration aspect, he finally denounces “the recycling of old measures”.

On the perch, Marine Le Pen points out, for her part, “a catalog of promises”, without “any breath”. The head of the National Rally deputies believes that Gabriel Attal “accommodates the worst of the right and the worst of the left”. According to her, the head of government’s speech was only “a detailed review of a general policy declaration that the President of the Republic had made before him and, therefore, in his place”, considering that “the president is minister of everything and, obviously, the first of them.”
