Recall: baby porridge contains dangerous bacteria

Migros announces a recall for baby porridge. Cronobacter bacteria have been detected, the infection of which can be fatal to babies.

Parents always have a supply of baby food in the closet – but this should now be checked carefully. Because the Migros retail chain has issued a recall. This affects several types of baby porridge that should under no circumstances be fed.

Bacteria can cause meningitis in babies

Migros expressly asks parents to stop giving the products to their children. So-called Cronobacter bacteria were found in an internal control by the manufacturer. These are particularly dangerous for newborns, infants and toddlers, because they can cause meningitis. In the worst case, a Cronobacter infection can be fatal to children.

If one of the porridge varieties has already been fed and the baby shows symptoms, a doctor should be consulted. Meningitis (meningitis) can manifest itself, for example, through a fever, severe fatigue, later also abdominal pain and seizures.

Mibébé's baby porridge products were sold by Migros in Switzerland, but also sold online. The affected varieties are said to have already been withdrawn from the market. Anyone who has already bought it can return it to a branch or to the manufacturer. The purchase price should also be reimbursed without receipt.
