Recall: mold and bacteria in Christmas cookies

Beware of those who have already stocked up on Christmas cookies: there is a recall due to mold and bacteria.

Well, who has also supplied themselves with Christmas candy? It's November – and therefore definitely legitimate to start the season with gingerbread and mulled wine. In addition, the first bite in Spekulatius and Co. still tastes best … and we can currently use a few good feelings.

So: We fully understand if you have already stocked up on Christmas cookies. However, caution is required now. Because a recall was issued.

As announced by the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety, the Salzwedeler Baumkuchenfabrik Hennig is calling all Pastry batches back. "Microbiological contamination" was found. The following products are specifically affected:

  • Manufacturer: First Salzwedeler Baumkuchenfabrik Hennig
  • Baumkuchen and Baumkuchen products
  • Including tree cake cakes, tree cake tops, tree cake quarters and rum balls
  • all products purchased from the manufacturer within the last 12 months will be recalled
  • fresh and frozen

In the press release, the manufacturer writes: "As a contamination of previously manufactured products cannot be ruled out, we are recalling all products." During a quality control, mold and bacteria were detected. Therefore, all baked goods should no longer be eaten.

The Baumkuchen, Rumkugeln and Co. from Salzwedeler Baumkuchenfabrik Hennig were sold in branches, at trade fairs, markets and in the online shop. That is why customers who have bought products from the company within the last year are now asked to return them. The products will then be either replaced or refunded.

You shouldn't eat the Christmas cookies anymore. Health impairments cannot be ruled out. If you have any questions, you can get information directly from the manufacturer via a telephone hotline: 03901-32306.
