Recall: "Possible risk of injury" from foreign objects in grated cheese

Attention, there is a recall for grated cheese. The cheese can contain foreign bodies, which is why a "possible risk of injury" is assumed.

Lidl is currently informing about a recall. A "Milbona" discounter's own brand of grated cheese could contain bits of plastic. The Dutch manufacturer of the product announced this and warns against consuming the cheese.

Recall of grated cheese

Specifically, the recall concerns the following product:

  • Milbona Gouda grated young, matured for at least 4 weeks
  • Manufacturer: A-ware Packaging B.V
  • In the 250 gram pack
  • Best before date 10/31/2020
  • Lot number 40001726 6422220
  • Production period 11:57 to 14:02
  • Identity label NL Z0814 EG

The information should be found on the packaging, the production period is printed with the information on the best-before date.

The manufacturer cannot rule out the possibility of blue plastic particles in the cheese. "Due to the possible risk of injury when consuming it, customers should definitely heed the recall and never consume the product," Lidl writes in the message.

The grated cheese is said to have only been sold in Lidl branches in Schleswig-Holstein. However, it can be returned in all branches. Customers will receive the purchase price reimbursed even without submitting the receipt.

So if you like to eat gratinated foods – and we're thinking of pizza, casseroles and the like – you should check your supplies to be on the safe side and replace the grated cheese. Even if the plastic parts may not be visible to the naked eye, they can still cause internal injuries if consumed unnoticed. Lidl is said to have already taken the product off the market and is now pointing out that only said cheese batch and no other items from the manufacturer are affected. If you are unsure or have questions, you can also get information from Lidl's customer hotline.
