Recall: Salmonella danger in cheese | BRIGITTE.de

A recall has been issued for cheese. Salmonella could be detected in the affected product.

Cheese lovers watch out: there is another callback. After having just hit the beloved grated cheese for gratin, it is now about sliced cheese. The Rhöner Hofkäserei is currently warning of salmonella.

The bacteria were detected during an in-house inspection by the dairy – which is why a recall has now been issued for the affected product:

Recall of cheese

  • Cheese "Four Seasons Italy"
  • Sliced cheese made from raw milk
  • at least 45 percent fat
  • in the 180 gram pack
  • Manufacturer: Rhöner Hofkäserei, Katja Richter
  • Place of manufacture: Brembach – Gersfeld
  • Batch number: 25-20

The information should be on a label at the bottom right of the cheese. The cheese was sold in several retail stores in the federal states of Hesse and Bavaria.

Salmonella can cause diarrhea

Due to the danger of salmonella, the cheese should never be eaten again. Salmonella are rod-shaped bacteria that can cause febrile diarrhea. Healthy people usually recover on their own within a few days. In the elderly, pregnant women, small children or immunocompromised people, salmonella diseases can be dangerous and have a severe course. Anyone who experiences symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain and occasional vomiting and has already eaten the cheese should see a doctor. A visit to the doctor is usually not necessary without symptoms, as the "Lebensmittelwarnung.de" portal of the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety writes.

The cheese can be returned in the shop, customers should then be reimbursed the purchase price. The Rhöner Hofkäserei apologizes for the incident.
